Mark Steinmetz - Carnival - 2019

First edition of Carnival by American photographer Mark Steinmetz, published by Stanley/Barker in 2019.

The photographs were made between 1982 and 2001, during Steinmetz’s visits to country fairs, urban street fairs and small circuses across the United States. The series focuses on fairgoers, teenagers, families and carnival workers, combining observational documentary photography with Steinmetz’s characteristically quiet, psychologically attentive portraiture.
