Description from the seller
Up for auction: a beautiful, highly diverse, and carefully curated collection of exactly 40 miniature elephant figurines. This unique collection includes pieces from different continents, time periods, and styles, crafted from an impressive array of high-quality artisanal materials.
The total net weight of the collection is about 950 grams (2.09 lbs), underscoring the substantial and solid quality of the materials used.
Highlights from this collection:
• Hand-carved Soapstone (Steatite): including a large, rare Indian Jali elephant (hand-carved with a fully cut-out baby elephant inside the belly) and a piece beautifully inlaid with colored stone mosaic.
• Vintage Glasswork: With the absolute centerpiece a rare Art Deco pressed-glass elephant ashtray/pipe rest in a stylish lilac/purple shade. Also various hand-shaped lampwork glass and crystal miniatures.
• Natural Stone & Minerals: Beautiful miniatures carved from, among others, rose quartz and semi-transparent green aventurine/jadeite.
• Oriental Art: Two refined, colorful elephants in traditional cloisonné technique (enamel with metal outlining) and figurines in a deep-red Eastern lacquer-look (cinnabar-style).
• Ceramics & Porcelain: Including an elegant hand-painted porcelain souvenir elephant from the late 20th century.
All 40 figurines are in good, used vintage condition. Some soapstone pieces show the characteristic light signs of age typical for this soft material (surface scratches or slight discolorations), which add to their authentic character. Please review the extensive photo series closely to form your own accurate impression of the details and the condition of the individual objects.
