Description from the seller
Sphaerechinus granularis – Large Sea Urchin Test with Exceptional Natural Coloration
A beautiful large specimen of Sphaerechinus granularis, distinguished by its impressive rounded form, strong pentaradial symmetry and particularly rich natural coloration.
The test displays an intricate combination of deep burgundy, reddish-orange, violet and cream tones. These colors follow the characteristic radial structure of the sea urchin, creating an almost geometric pattern across the entire surface. Numerous pale tubercles contrast strongly against the darker background, emphasizing the fine texture and complex architecture of the test.
Viewed from above, the five-part symmetry is especially striking, with alternating bands radiating naturally from the central apical area. The underside is considerably lighter, predominantly cream-white with reddish markings, and clearly shows the large central opening and the continuation of the radial structure.
The specimen retains a full, rounded profile and has a particularly strong decorative presence. Small natural irregularities and traces associated with the original biological structure are visible, as expected in an authentic sea urchin test and as clearly documented in the photographs.
An impressive natural history specimen, ideal for an echinoderm collection, cabinet of curiosities or sophisticated marine-inspired interior display.
