Halomitra pileus, a Mushroom Coral specimen from the Solomon Islands, in good condition, mounted on a brass display stand with a weight of 1875 g and dimensions 24.5 × 17 × 12.5 cm (max height 34 cm), dating to 2022 and authentic as original, listed under CITES IT/IM/2022/MCE/05342.
Description from the seller
Halomitra pileus – Large Mushroom Coral on Brass Stand – Solomon Islands
An impressive specimen of Halomitra pileus, commonly known as Mushroom Coral, originating from the Solomon Islands and presented on an elegant brass display stand.
This example has a particularly sculptural, deeply concave form, with broad undulating margins and an intricate skeletal structure that changes dramatically depending on the viewing angle. The inner surface is covered with extremely fine radial septa converging toward the center, while the outer surface develops into dense folded ridges and overlapping lamellae.
The natural white to soft cream coloration enhances the complexity of the structure and gives the specimen a refined, almost architectural appearance. Seen from the side, the coral reveals a remarkable layered texture, with delicate comb-like formations creating strong depth and relief.
The warm patina of the brass base contrasts beautifully with the pale coral and gives the specimen a sophisticated, ready-to-display presentation.
Coral dimensions: 24.5 × 17 × 12.5 cm
Maximum height on stand: 34 cm
A highly decorative natural history specimen, ideal for a marine collection, cabinet of curiosities or elegant interior display.
Cites: IT/IM/2022/MCE/05342
ATTENTION bidders from outside EU: This lot requires specific CITES custom clearance procedures to be shipped outside Italy and then imported in your Country. We strongly discourage bidders from outside the European Union to make offers.
