Philip of Taranto was a powerful Angevin prince in Frankish Greece. In 1294 his father, Charles II of Naples, granted him Corfu and extensive rights in Greece, while his marriage to Thamar of Epirus brought Lepanto and other Epirote strongholds as her dowry. Philip sought to expand Angevin influence across western Greece and became Prince of Achaea in 1307, though his ambitions were constrained by Byzantine, Epirote and Catalan resistance.
