Description
A finely carved small wooden bowl or mortar-bowl, attributed to the Fang.

The object has a shallow rounded bowl, a sophisticated circular handle, and a finely carved triangular border running around the lower outer edge. Its elongated silhouette and ring-shaped handle give it a particularly elegant sculptural presence.

It was probably used as a small mortar, originally together with a pestle, now no longer present. The interior shows strong signs of use, with a deep, dark patina and worn surface consistent with repeated handling and functional use.

This example is especially appealing for the refinement of its carving. The triangular decoration is carefully executed, while the handle is unusually elaborate for such a modest utilitarian object. The contrast between the dark, used interior and the smoother outer surface gives the piece a strong visual character.

A small but very attractive Fang-attributed wooden vessel, appreciated for its fine carving, elegant handle, geometric decoration and deep patina of use.

Good condition overall, with wear, scratches, stains, abrasions and surface irregularities consistent with age and use.
