Description from the seller
Elegant and refined indoor decorative column, historically used as a pedestal for sculptures, marble busts, or prestigious botanical elements (planter).
The artifact is a superb example of Italian sculptural craftsmanship, bridging the 19th and 20th centuries.
The piece is entirely carved from a block of high-quality arabesque white marble, characterized by a white-ivory background traversed by a dense and suggestive lattice of dark gray and ash-toned veining that gives great visual dynamism to the entire structure.
The Capital (Upper Part): Features a cantilevered, octagonal-shaped shelf with beveled corners, resting on a fluted molding.
The upper plane provides a flat, ideal and exceptionally stable surface to support artworks or vases.
The Central Shaft: The real peculiarity lies in the shaft, cut and worked in alternating drums, divided at the center by a raised ring (collar).
The upper section is finely carved with vertical classical flutes, while the lower section displays a splendid spiral torchon-work that enhances the natural play of the marble veining.
The Base: At the base, the shaft transitions to a domed element with raised acanthus decoration, supported by a succession of flaring torus that interlock with a solid and massive octagonal plinth base, ensuring a perfect center of gravity for the piece.
A timeless antique piece of furniture, ideal for enriching representative salons, entrances, or private galleries with a touch of classical Italian monumentality.
Measurements: Height 94 cm, square top 20.5 cm, base hexagonal 25 cm
