This coin comes from the world famous collection of Archer Huntington. His coins were given to the American Hispanic Society and later on deposited in the American Numismatic Society in New York (see ill. of this coin on the black & white photo file from that collection as distributed by Sotheby’s in 2012). In 2012 the Spanish Society decided to sell the coins in one lot by Sotheby’s. Large parts of the collection returned after the sale to the ANS, but that was not the case of the coins of the Low Countries. They were finally sold in Europe (Brussels and Geneva). This coin was sold by Jean Elsen in his Huntington Sale ( Auction Jean Elsen sale 115 of 8 December 2012 lot 189. Sotheby’s did not print an auction catalogue but distributed an USB-stick with photo files. The Huntington collection number is 2417.
