Description
An elegant horn porridge spoon from Ethiopia, probably from the Arsi / Arussi Oromo region.
Carved from a naturally curved piece of horn, the spoon has a long, fluid silhouette, tapering towards one end and opening into a shallow elongated bowl. The object is simple, functional and highly refined in its proportions.
The surface shows a beautiful dark brown to amber patina, with glossy areas, visible use wear and fine incised ring decoration. The natural striations of the horn remain visible and give the piece a subtle depth and warm visual quality.
This example is especially appealing for its slender curved profile, its tactile surface and its understated elegance. It is a modest utilitarian object, but one with real sculptural presence.
Condition
Good condition overall for an object of this type.
Wear, scratches, small abrasions, small edge losses and surface irregularities consistent with age and use.
The horn shows a rich used patina.
Please refer to the photographs.
