Description from the seller
Item Description
"Nam June Paik: Feed Back & Feed Forth" — the official exhibition catalogue published by the Watarium Museum, Tokyo, for the artist's landmark 1993 exhibition.
This is the first edition, first printing (published 8 September 1993), and this Japan-only edition was never released internationally.
Nam June Paik (1932–2006) is widely celebrated as "the father of video art" and a leading figure of the international Fluxus movement.
This large-format catalogue documents his career-defining moment: the German Pavilion at the 45th Venice Biennale in 1993, where Paik represented Germany and was awarded the Golden Lion.
Inside, the 160 pages are richly illustrated with full-colour and black-and-white photographic plates, including his iconic robot sculptures such as "Robot K-456," multi-monitor video towers, and striking documentation of his TV installations and neon works.
The book also features rare behind-the-scenes photographs of Paik together with fellow avant-garde artist Joseph Beuys, a close friend and frequent collaborator, offering an intimate glimpse into one of the most important artistic partnerships of the 20th century.
A printed signature of the artist appears within the book (this is a printed reproduction, not a hand-signed autograph).
Published under the supervision of the Watarium Museum, this catalogue is a valuable primary-source document for collectors, museums, and researchers of postwar video art, Fluxus, and Korean-German contemporary art history.
Its bold, colourful spine and striking cover photograph also make it an attractive object in its own right — easy to display and a lovely accent piece on any bookshelf or coffee table.
