Historical and Pedagogical Significance:
FUNDAMENTAL THEORETICAL QUOTATION: Mario Montessori explicitly quotes Maria Montessori's new ideas on "Cosmic Education" ("truly wonderful and full of comforting possibilities for the future"), a cornerstone concept of Montessori pedagogy for children aged 6 to 12, developed during their exile in India.
INTIMATE NICKNAME: He refers to Maria Montessori three times using the historic and affectionate private nickname "Mammolina".
POST-WAR HISTORICAL CONTEXT: The letter describes Maria Montessori's triumphant conference in Paris (at UNESCO/Sorbonne) and her upcoming return journey to Italy in May 1947 to rebuild the Opera Nazionale Montessori.
BIOGRAPHICAL TESTIMONY: Contains strong and bitter personal reflections on Italy's Fascist past ("Italy has never treated me in a way to arouse the slightest love for my country in me. Holland, on the other hand, has"), tied to the persecutions and closure of Montessori schools in the 1930s.
An intact document, perfectly preserved and legible, of extraordinary collectible and museum relevance for archives, foundations, and 20th-century historical manuscript collectors.
