Art Deco two-handled vase in ceramic from Belgium, manufactured by Ceramique Montoise (Antoine Dubois) in Bergen with model 811 and measurements 21 cm high, 21 cm wide and 8 cm deep, weighing 750 g, in good condition with minor age-related wear and no structural cracks.
Description from the seller
This Art Deco period two-handled vase is a superb hand-painted ceramic creation from the Belgian pottery La Céramique Montoise, located in Mons and founded in the early 1920s by Antoine Dubois. The piece adopts an ovoid form resting on a recessed circular pedestal base, topped by a short neck with a scalloped rim and flanked by two large solid curved handles that elegantly join the upper part of the body. The dense polychrome decoration displays a highly stylized floral frieze featuring soft pink and ultramarine blue flowers, accompanied by broad ochre brown leaves and light green stems set against a pale cream background. The floral elements are highlighted by a delicate gilded edging, while the base, neck, and two handles receive a matte monochrome glaze in a satin chocolate brown.
The item measures a total height of 21 cm, a maximum width of 21 cm including the side handles, and a depth of approximately 8 cm at the neck, for an individual weight of 750 g. The underside of the earthenware base bears the original blue underglaze markings, including the monogram C. M for Céramique Montoise, the city name Bergen which corresponds to Mons in Flemish, the pattern reference number 1118, and the stylized mountain or mine-dump graphic signature unique to the factory. The overall condition of preservation of this ceramic piece is good, as it retains very fresh colors and well-preserved gilding on its body without any structural cracks. There is, however, a localized small superficial chip visible beneath the outer rim of the base which does not affect the stability or the overall aesthetics of the vase when displayed.
