Description
A small archaeological terracotta vessel attributed to the Bura / Bura-Asinda-Sikka culture, from the Niger River region.
The Bura archaeological tradition is best known for its terracotta funerary material, including vessels, urns and sculptural elements associated with ancient burial contexts. Objects of this type are appreciated not only as archaeological artefacts, but also for their strong archaic presence and the expressive quality of their excavated surfaces.
This example has a simple rounded body, a short constricted neck and a flared rim. Its form is modest but very appealing, with a natural balance between the small globular body and the open mouth. The terracotta surface shows a warm sandy-orange colour, with dark mineral deposits and a dry archaeological patina.
The object is particularly attractive for its untouched, excavated appearance. The absence of decoration gives it a very pure presence, allowing the viewer to appreciate the shape, surface texture and age-related encrustations.
A charming small Bura archaeological vessel, appreciated for its compact form, ancient terracotta surface, excavation patina and strong archaic character.
Condition
Good archaeological condition overall, with wear, small chips, abrasions, surface irregularities, mineral deposits and excavation patina consistent with age and burial context.
Small losses and minor edge wear, especially around the rim.
No major restoration visible from the photographs.
Please refer to the photographs.
Included
The vessel only.
No stand included.
