Attributed continuous 2.75 m long cotton velvet fabric designed by Gaetano Pesce in the 1970s for Expansion Design Bologna, Italy, with the Arlecchino (Vibration) pattern, in excellent vintage condition with slight signs of wear and age.
Description from the seller
Extraordinary and rare continuous cut of 2.75 meters of smooth cotton velvet from the era, designed by Gaetano Pesce in the 1970s for the famous Vibration collection produced by Expansion Design Bologna.
This fabric represents an icon of Italian Radical Design and the Optical Art aesthetics of the Space Age period. The pattern, known as "Arlecchino" (or "Vibration"), features a vertical geometric development of tear-drop shapes and concentric diamonds. The color palette boasts a high-contrast: a dense, deep brown background on which the bright shades of sky blue, vivid red, bright yellow, and dark green hues in the intersections stand out.
The velvet surface gives the colors a luminous iridescence and a unique softness to the touch, making this piece a striking furnishing element or a highly collectible object.
The piece is presented in excellent vintage condition: colors are saturated and bright, the velvet pile well preserved. Note white color stripes due to the white warp on which the velvet was woven: they concern only part of the fabric.
The selvage is present and intact, neutral (without printed signature, typical of meter-long production of the era).
Being a single continuous cut of 3 meters, this piece is particularly rare on the market. It is ideal for both collectors of designer textiles and textile art, and for exclusive interior design projects (wall installations like a large tapestry, upholstery or bespoke cushions).
Colors may vary depending on the different digital devices used.
