Description
A fine West African copper-alloy anklet or bracelet with three sounding bells, attributable to the Dan / Wé cultural area of Côte d’Ivoire and Liberia.

Objects of this type were worn as body ornaments and also functioned as sound-producing adornments. The small stones preserved inside the three hollow bells make the bracelet rattle when moved.

This example has a very attractive open circular form, with three rounded domed bells arranged along the upper section. The bells are decorated with fine dotted punchwork, while the lower terminals end in small curled volutes.

The bracelet is especially appealing for its elegant balance, compact size and lively sculptural presence. The surface has a warm aged brass tone with darker oxidation in the recessed areas, traces of green copper-alloy patina and fine wear from handling.

The three bells are complete and still contain their rattling stones, giving the object both visual and acoustic interest.

A charming Dan / Wé three-bell bracelet, appreciated for its refined form, preserved rattles, dotted decoration and beautiful old patina.

Condition
Good condition overall, with wear, oxidation, surface deposits, small casting irregularities and age-related marks.
The three hollow bells are preserved and still contain their small internal stones.
Patina with darker oxidation and some green copper-alloy traces.
Please refer to the photographs.
