Description from the seller
Splendid glass sculpture depicting a kingfisher, created by the Venetian master Vittorio Costantini and signed with the characteristic initials “VC”.
The work stands out for the extraordinary chromatic richness and for the level of detail achieved in extremely small dimensions. The plumage is composed of intense tones of blue, light blue, turquoise, black and orange, with a vivid orange breast, lighter throat and a long reddish beak. The wing and feather workmanship is particularly refined, as are the extremely thin legs with separated toes and dark tips.
Costantini, born in Burano in 1944, is one of the contemporary masters best known for lampworking. He began working in a furnace at only 11 years old and in 1974 he opened his own workshop in Venice. Nature is at the center of his research: birds, fish, insects, butterflies and flowers are studied carefully in anatomy and colors to be subsequently reproduced in glass with great realism.
The Murano Glass Museum has presented him as one of the most established contemporary masters of lampworking, also recalling his international activity as an artist and teacher.
This small bird perfectly represents Costantini’s naturalistic production: an authentic sculptural miniature, in which the technical difficulty is evident especially in the realization of the thin legs, the beak, the wings and in the numerous color variations of the plumage.
