Description
A fine Fulani / Peul ring from West Africa, made in low-grade silver or silver alloy.

Fulani jewellery is often notable for its elegant balance between personal adornment, social identity and symbolic form. Rings of this type were not only worn as ornaments, but also formed part of a wider vocabulary of prestige objects, in which metalwork, architecture and protective symbolism could merge.

This example has a particularly strong architectural presence. The circular ring is framed by a serrated outer edge, while the upper and lower ends are each finished with a conical finial. The vertical composition gives the piece a striking, almost amuletic silhouette.

The ring shows a sober but refined construction: rounded volumes, small toothed details, a raised circular body and a finely modelled upper section. Its form may evoke a stylised architectural or symbolic structure, in keeping with the visual language often found in Fulani silver ornaments.

The surface shows a fine old patina, with darkened recesses, soft rubbing on the high points and traces of age and handling. These signs of use give the object both presence and authenticity of character.

A very attractive Fulani ring, appreciated for its unusual vertical form, architectural silhouette, old patina and strong decorative presence.
