Description
A fine small Turkana atubwa wooden bowl from Kenya.
Among the Turkana, atubwa bowls belong to the refined tradition of carved wooden domestic vessels, used in daily life for food, milk or other household purposes. They are practical objects, but their forms often show a strong sense of balance and sculptural presence.
This example is especially appealing for its compact size and elegant conformation. The bowl has an elongated, softly rectangular form, with rounded sides, slightly raised ends and a beautifully hollowed interior. Its shape is simple but very well balanced, giving the object a quiet sculptural quality.
The wood has developed a warm honey-brown patina, with darker natural areas and traces of handling. The exterior shows beautiful variations in tone, while the interior bears marks and surface wear consistent with use. A small fibre cord element is still present on one side.
A charming Turkana atubwa bowl, appreciated for its graceful form, intimate scale, warm old patina and strong ethnographic presence.
Condition
Good condition overall, with wear, abrasions, surface marks, small chips and age-related irregularities consistent with use.
Beautiful old usage patina.
Natural variations and darker areas in the wood.
Please refer to the photographs.
Included
The bowl only.
No stand included.
