A pair of two heavy onyx side tables in antique-inspired design from France, each with a 40 cm high, 44 cm wide and 33 cm deep stone top weighing together about 15 kg, featuring a richly decorated metal base with patina and signs of age.
Description from the seller
A pair you rarely come across: onyx, patina and pure elegance
Some furniture fills a space. Others give a space character. This special pair of side tables undoubtedly belongs to the latter category.
Two heavy slabs of natural stone, presumably onyx, each with its own beautiful veining and warm nuances. Below them a richly decorated metal base with graceful curved legs, classic volutes and refined ornaments. The look sits somewhere between Neoclassicism, Neo Empire and Hollywood Regency: elegant, pronounced and just extravagant enough.
And they are not only beautiful. Together the tables weigh about 15 kilograms. Both pieces are sturdy and stable, the construction is solid and the natural stone slabs are intact and in nice condition. The metal wears a natural patina and visible signs of aging, especially on the underside. Exactly enough to show that these tables have lived a life.
The exact maker and origin are not known. The exact alloy has not been determined either. That perhaps makes them more interesting: no name to sell the furniture, but two objects that stand on their own.
And above all: it is a pair. Put them on either side of a sofa or bed, use them as lamp tables, or give each its own place. They are decorative enough to function almost as small sculptures.
Those who love clean and unobtrusive design will probably walk right past.
Those seeking an interior piece that makes someone ask upon entering, “Where did you find that?” might not want to hesitate for too long.
