Vintage cotton velvet fabric designed by Gaetano Pesce for Expansion Design Bologna, dating from the 1970s to 1980, in turquoise on latte white with the 'Vibration' grid pattern, measuring 126 x 230 cm and attributed to Gaetano Pesce, in excellent condition with rare use and only slight signs of wear.
Description from the seller
Splendid and rare vintage velvet piece designed by architect and designer Gaetano Pesce in the 1970s for Expansion Design Bologna. The pattern, named "Vibration", is one of the most iconic expressions of kinetic art and Op Art applied to textiles in Italian Radical Design.
This color variant is particularly refined and graphic: it features the classic grid of squares and rectangles in an intense stylized turquoise on a luminous milky white background. The play of densification and dilation of the geometric lines creates a pronounced illusion of movement and three-dimensional depth. The screen-printed velvet work gives the design a tactile softness and a distinctive luminosity.
The original, intact selvage is present and unprinted, typical of metre-long production of the era (for this reason the fabric is attributed to Gaetano Pesce).
The pile of the velvet is intact and luminous; I note a trace of dirt in one of the corners at the beginning of the piece.
A piece of great interest for collectors of textile art and author design. The turquoise-on-milky-white color combination lends itself beautifully to being mounted on a loom as a large tapestry/wall art piece, or used to create decorative art cushions and high-end coverings.
