Parisian chocolate service in fine porcelain with hand-painted floral decor and relief gilding, comprising a porcelain chocolatière with a bascule brass clasp, a matching rectangular cake plate, and a cake knife with an inox blade engraved APOLLONOX, all in its original presentation case and dating from the 1930s in Paris by Atelier parisien & Orfèvrerie Apollo, France; excellent condition.
Description from the seller
I offer, with no reserve, this Parisian Chocolate Service in its presentation case (cake plate and knife).
This chocolate service dates from the Jazz Age (circa 1930).
Floral decoration (roses, tulips, pansies), white scrolls in slight relief.
The porcelain was probably hand-painted in a Parisian workshop working in the Saxony style (polychrome flowers and white enamel scrolls), with a double X / crossed swords mark on the base.
The freshness of the hand-painted floral decor colors, the quality of the gilding, and the white-relief enamel scrolls make it a truly beautiful piece.
The set is in very good condition for its century, and includes:
- 1 fine porcelain chocolatier with hand-painted floral decoration and relief enamel scrolls, equipped with its hinged brass clasp that retains the lid. This mechanism was used until the 1930s. Marked with a double X / crossed swords under the base. 19.5 cm tall, weight 610 g
- 1 rectangular cake plate/serving platter with golden edge. Marked with a double X / crossed swords under the base. 31.5 cm x 16 cm, weight 808 g
- 1 cake knife with a porcelain handle, chiselled collar, and stainless steel blade engraved "APOLLONOX" (Apollo Silverware, Paris). This brand, registered in the early 1920s by the Société Générale de Coutellerie et d'Orfèvrerie Apollo (Thiers/Paris), pioneered high-end table stainless steel. 25 cm long, weight 106 g
The cake plate and the knife are in their original presentation case.
This set is in excellent condition for its century-old age; I found no chips or hairlines, with only minor wear to the gilding. The case is in good condition but shows more wear and small stains. This service appears as shown in the photos.
Shipping costs are those of the French postal service."
