Monumental Baroque‑Rococo gilded carved wood and glass mirror, 223 × 130 cm, made in Italy, dating from the XXth century, in very good condition with rare use and slight signs of wear and age.
Description from the seller
Grand Monumental Mirror in Baroque (Rococo) Style – Carved and Gilded Wood with Antique Gold Leaf, 223×130 cm – Italy, 20th Century
Imposing monumental salon or fireplace mirror, crafted in finely carved wood and gilded with antique gold leaf. The work, of Italian Baroque‑Rococo taste, is distinguished by its exceptional dimensions and the ornamental richness of the frame, a true triumph of decoration and theatricality.
The design features broad vinous scrolls, curled acanthus leaves, shell motifs (rocaille), and a pierced, highly dramatic pediment. On the sides, elegant musical ornaments with reliefs of musical scores and instruments further embellish the composition.
The inner profile of the mirror is defined by a raised geometric molding, enriched by day-work (pierced) angular elements, while the base with decorated feet ensures a sculptural and solid presence.
The mirror is designed to be used either resting on the floor—thanks to the feet integrated into the structure—or mounted on the wall, maintaining in both configurations its monumental presence and its ability to dominate the space.
A high antiquarian work, ideal for drawing rooms, grand entrances, scenographic hearths, or contemporary eclectic contexts where one wishes to enhance the light and majesty of the antique gilding.
