Description from the seller

Rare Antique Counter Scales “Style 221” – The Computing Scale Co. (Pioneer of IBM, 1906-1910) – With weights

Very rare and authentic cast-iron shop and candy scale from circa 1906 by The Computing Scale Co. (Dayton, Ohio, USA). Fitted with ornate bronze decorative rims in Art Nouveau/Victorian style and an original printed Dutch scale division in Pounds and Ounces. A beautiful piece of industrial history: The Computing Scale Co. formed the direct basis for the later technology giant IBM. The mechanism does not work well, and it is supplied with the original weights. The scale has a wonderful patina. Due to its heavy weight and the combination of cast iron and glass, this scale is very fragile and extremely difficult to ship by post. Pickup or delivery by us up to about 500 km from Zoetermeer at cost price (25 cents per km) is our preferred option. This type of scale almost never appears at auction and is a real coup to acquire a beautiful industrial design piece from the art nouveau period.
