Description from the seller
Large collection of antique photographs devoted to the world of show business, mainly from the 1940s-1950s.
The collection brings together several dozen portraits and photographs of artists: actors, singers, operetta performers, dancers, lyric artists and show business personalities.
A substantial portion of the photographs bears dedications, signatures or handwritten inscriptions from the period.
Among the names explicitly indicated on the photographs or documents are notably:
– Marcel Merkès
– Paulette Trilles
– Guy Godin
– Albert Nauroy
– Paul Merkès
– Fernanda Cadoni
– Colette Muzart
– Nick Varlan
– Claude Touzeau
– Guy Coll
as well as many other artists remaining unidentified or whose signatures are difficult to decipher.
The lot comprises different formats: studio portraits, photo cards, dance and stage photographs, performance photographs and a few larger-format prints.
Several versos bear stamps from photographers, studios or agencies, notably in Paris, Constantine, Rome and Belgium.
Some photographs are dated or include handwritten indications from the 1940s and 1950s.
IMPORTANT:
The signatures and dedications are presented as they appear on the photographs. They have not been the subject of appraisal or an authenticity certificate and are therefore sold without any attribution guarantee beyond the visible inscriptions.
CONDITION:
Condition varies according to the photographs.
The whole shows the usual signs of an old collection: yellowing, foxing, small stains, edge and corner wear, creases or small losses on some pieces.
Several versos also show glue marks or evidence of old mounting.
The provided photographs allow for a precise examination of the pieces, inscriptions, signatures, stamps and their overall condition.
The lot is sold complete, without separation.
Collection of interest for autograph enthusiasts, vintage photography, theatre, operetta, dance, cinema and the history of French and European show business in the mid-20th century.
