A pair of heavy antique heraldic lion candlesticks from Amsterdam, Netherlands, dating from 1850–1900, cast-brass in the antique style, each about 37 cm high, 20 cm wide and 13 cm deep, weighing 4214 g, in good used condition with minor signs of age and spots.
Description from the seller
A beautiful and heavily crafted pair of antique heraldic lion candlesticks from the Netherlands, dating from the late 19th or early 20th century.
With an impressive height of 37 cm, this concerns the rarer, large and monumental version of this model (most variants are only 26-27 cm tall).
Each candlestick features a seated lion as shield bearer, holding the official coat of arms of the city of Amsterdam. The shield is cast in very fine detail with the iconic vertical band bearing the three Saint Andrew’s crosses, topped by the imperial crown.
The candlesticks are handcrafted using the sand-casting process, which is clearly visible in the authentic, rough interior of the bases.
The objects are composed of loose segments and are held together securely by a central threaded rod with the original hex nut and a large original adjustable screw at the rear of the manes.
Condition: In good, complete antique condition with a beautiful, deep, natural patina. No breaks or old restorations. In the deep grooves there are still a few light historical copper polish residues visible, which contribute to the authentic character. Carefully packed and insured shipping.
