Portable writing desk with a black textured exterior and a light and dark wood interior, opening to a writing surface with compartments and a removable tray for writing implements, housed in a compact box 25 × 20 × 8 cm and weighing 1.5 kg, made in the United Kingdom and dating to the early 20th century, in good used condition with minor signs of wear.
Description from the seller
A portable writing desk with a black textured exterior finish and an interior decorated with bands of light and dark wood. When closed, it forms a compact box measuring approximately 25 × 20 × 8 cm, weighing 1.5 kg.
When opened, it provides a writing surface, compartments for correspondence, and a removable tray for writing implements. It includes an inkwell with an inner glass container, an inner cap to prevent leaks, and an outer hinged cover, two writing implements secured inside, an ivory-colored letter opener, probably bone, and a key with a black tassel.
Two handwritten labels are preserved. One bears the dedication “This Writing case is a present from Aunt Elizabeth” — “Este escritorio portátil es un regalo de tía Elizabeth” —. The other contains names and addresses, including Ernest Wood & Co., of Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester, a philatelic business documented in 1901. These inscriptions provide information about the piece’s history.
The piece shows the usual wear on edges and corners, wear to the exterior surface, and marks on the interior surfaces, visible in the photographs, which form part of the description. The time stamp on the images confirms the current state of the piece.
The loose accessories will be shipped protected separately inside the packaging to prevent damage during transit. All items will be suitably packaged and sent with a tracking number.
