Description from the seller

Calappa calappa – Red-Spotted Box Crab – Large Marine Specimen – Philippines
IMPORTANT – SPECIMEN SHOWN IN THE PHOTOS

The unpacked specimen shown in the first photographs is not the exact specimen you will receive. It has been photographed as a representative example to clearly show the appearance, anatomy, coloration and details of this species.
The actual specimen offered in this listing is theexample shown inside the blue box in the final photographs. The dimensions stated in the auction specifications refer specifically to the specimen for sale.
Our supplier in the Philippines professionally packs each crab individually to protect its delicate legs, claws and appendages during transport. For this reason, we prefer not to remove the actual specimen from its original protective packaging, as unnecessary unpacking and repacking would increase the risk of damage.

Description:
A remarkable specimen of Calappa calappa, commonly known as the Red-Spotted Box Crab, characterized by its broad, strongly convex carapace and extraordinarily developed front claws.
One of the most striking features of this species is the pair of massive chelae, which can be held closely against the front of the body, creating the compact, almost enclosed appearance that gives box crabs their distinctive character. The claws display broad flattened surfaces, serrated upper margins and powerful curved tips, producing an impressive sculptural form when viewed from the front.
The carapace has a beautiful warm cream to pale peach coloration scattered with numerous reddish-orange spots. Similar markings continue across parts of the claws, while the walking legs retain softer pink and cream tones.
Close views reveal fascinating anatomical details, including the mouthparts, articulated limbs, textured surfaces and the robust construction of the claws.
A highly decorative and visually impressive marine specimen, particularly suitable for a natural history collection, Wunderkammer display or collection of unusual crustaceans.
The actual specimen is naturally subject to small individual variations compared with the representative unpacked example shown in the photographs.
