"Tai Tung Restaurant," a staple in Hong Kong, has a rich history; although the original establishment is closed, the legacy lives on through a private dining club established by the descendants of the founders. History and background: The original restaurant was founded in 1925 on the corner of Des Voeux Road Central and Man Wa Lane in Sheung Wan (opposite the Wing On Centre) and gained wide renown in the Lingnan region for organizing the legendary "Manchu-Han Imperial Banquet" in 1959. Etymology of the name: The name was given by Dr. Sun Yat-sen and reflects the ideals of "the world as a common good" and "universal harmony". Current status: The original, large-scale restaurant has long since closed; the activities are now continued by descendants through the "Tai Tung Private Dining Club" in Tsim Sha Tsui."
