Biography (From Wikipedia): Born in Tronzano Vercellese in 1816, Naya graduated in law in 1840 from the University of Pisa. In the 15 years that followed, as the son of a wealthy landowner, he had the opportunity to travel, visiting the major cities of Europe, Asia and North Africa. After his brother's death in 1857, he moved to Venice and made photography his profession: for a short period he published and sold his photographs through a collaboration with Carlo Ponti, a Venetian photographer and optician of Ticino origins and his contemporary. After an argument with the latter he opened a studio in Piazza San Marco and one in Campo San Maurizio in 1868.

His themes ranged from works of art to views, from architecture to folk scenes. In 1875 he published a collection entitled Memory of Venice, containing 20 photographs of Venice. He also worked in Padua, in 1865, dedicating himself to the Scrovegni Chapel, a famous work by Giotto. Some of his works are preserved in the George Eastman House. In 1882, after the photographer's death, his activity was continued first by his wife Ida Lessiak and then by her second husband Antonio Dal Zotto (1841-1918). In 1918 the activity ceased and the publisher Ferdinando Ongania (1842-1911) first and Osvaldo Böhm then bought a good part of his production.
