An Italian Mid-Century Baroque Style Walnut veneered Slant-Front Bureau / Commode Secretaire, mid-20th century

Crafted in the elaborate Italian Baroque taste, this walnut slant-front bureau desk features a serpentine contoured front profile with beautiful molded details. The upper section houses a slant-front drop leaf which pivots smoothly open to reveal a fitted desktop interior. The interior is smartly configured with an open central niche flanked by two small built-in trinket drawers with round brass pulls and a top shelf. Below the writing slope, the lower commode chest opens to three expansive, full-width drawers featuring traditional brass scroll drawer handles and matching escutcheons.
The piece features a beautifully carved and scalloped lower apron and is supported on four elegant cabriole legs terminating in traditional pad feet. The rich, warm walnut wood grain is exceptionally figured and enhanced by a lustrous satin patina finish.
