Description from the seller
Exceptional Antique Christofle Pair of Silver-Plated Candlesticks – c. 1930–1950
A beautiful and distinguished matching pair of Christofle antique table candlesticks, dating from approximately 1930–1950. Designed for elegant dining tables and formal table settings, they remain perfectly suitable for decorative display or practical use today.
Crafted in Métal Blanc / Nickel Silver (Alpaca) with a fine silver-plated finish, the pair has a beautiful silvery lustre and an impressive, substantial feel. Their solid construction makes them remarkably sturdy and stable, while the graceful classical design gives them a refined and timeless presence.
The bases bear characteristic Christofle identification and production marks, including the rectangular CHRISTOFLE mark and the number 5, together with additional stamped marks. Both pieces are also decorated with an elegant engraved “S R” monogram, adding a distinctive personal touch and period character.
Condition: Very good antique condition. One candlestick has two extremely fine, shallow scratches, barely visible on close inspection. The rim of the candle cup on the other candlestick bears a very subtle trace of a former impact, possibly resulting from an accidental fall. It has been expertly reshaped and carefully restored; the rim is now smooth, even and fully intact, with only a very slight change in contour detectable upon close examination.
A particularly elegant pair combining French craftsmanship, Christofle heritage, substantial quality and timeless decorative appeal, equally suited to a refined table setting or as a distinguished collector’s display.
