Original Japanese double‑sided enamel advertising board for a traditional sake brand, likely Sono no Chō, Showa period, made in Japan from enamel on steel; measures 36.5 by 45.5 cm and is in good used condition with light signs of aging and minor marks.
Description from the seller
Beautiful vintage Japanese enamel sign with advertising for a traditional Japanese sake brand, probably Sono no Chō (園乃蝶).
The sign has a striking graphic design with a deep blue background, a large yellow ornamental frame, and traditional Japanese calligraphy. The combination of bold colors and graceful Japanese characters gives the sign a distinctive look.
On the left is the Japanese character 酒, meaning sake or alcohol. The large characters in the middle refer to the brand name. Bottom-left is a round red-white-blue emblem with additional Japanese inscriptions.
The sign is likely from the Showa period (1926-1989) and was probably used as an advertisement sign at a Japanese liquor store, shop, or hospitality venue. The exact dating and origin have not been established.
Condition: attractive vintage condition with light signs of aging and use. Locally there are small blemishes and wear, mainly along the edges and around the two original mounting holes. The colors remain particularly strong and the inscriptions clearly visible.
View the photos carefully; they are part of the description.
A particularly decorative Japanese enamel sign for collectors of Japanese advertising, sake memorabilia, vintage advertising signs, and Showa design.
Ships from the Netherlands.
