Wooden lacquered and gilded frame of Italian origin, dating to 1850–1900, with outer dimensions 48.5 × 38.7 cm and inner 40.5 × 30.6 cm, in fairly used condition with probable small missing pieces.
Description from the seller
Enamelled and gilded frame, with a smooth-grooved profile sloping inward, dateable to around the second half of the 19th century.
The wooden structure presents a surface with a dark patina, tending toward blue-black, almost ebonized, characterized by natural signs of wear and the passage of time. The inner band is adorned with gilding, beneath which in some places there are thin traces of the underlying preparation, of red or ochre tone.
In terms of stylistic and decorative characteristics, the frame can be traced to Italian production of the 19th century, specifically attributable to Central Italy and it was intended to hold period paintings or mirrors.
