Description from the seller
Desert Mosaic – a unique piece of Moroccan Berber art
A particularly distinctive, characterful handmade Moroccan Berber rug, fully woven from wool on wool. With its size of 294 × 194 cm, this is a wonderfully generous rug that immediately adds warmth, color, and personality to an interior.
What makes this piece so special is the almost abstract, painterly composition. The surface consists of various geometric fields, lines, and symbolic shapes that are spread across the rug like a colorful mosaic.
The colors seem to come straight from the Moroccan landscape: warm sand and terracotta tones, combined with blue, red, cream, black, and soft earth colors. The warm orange/beige forms the base and gives the rug a natural, sunny appearance, while blue and red accents add liveliness and contrast.
The geometric motifs are inspired by the traditional visual language of Berber weavers. Checks and geometric shapes, within different Moroccan Berber traditions, are among other things associated with protection, connection, fertility, and the path of life. The exact meaning, however, varies by tribe and region. It is precisely this personal and symbolic visual language that makes Berber carpets so fascinating.
The different color fields almost resemble an abstract painting, making this rug not only functional but also a decorative work of art.
The rug is completely hand-made. The small variations in shapes, colors, and weaving structure are not defects, but characteristics of the craft, giving the rug its authentic and unique character. Not a machine-produced pattern, but a piece where the handmade work remains clearly visible and tangible.
