Description from the seller

Set of 5 bowls produced by the famous Italian manufacturer Galvani.

Airbrushed decoration on the rim in a futuristic style.

The set consists of 5 bowls 13x3 cm.

Overall good condition, one bowl has more noticeable defects.

The Galvani manufactory originated in Pordenone in 1811 from Giuseppe Galvani. At first the brand was a stylized anchor, then a stylized G, for a short period the inscription GALVANI in a rectangle (1933-34) and when the factory passed into the hands of Andrea Galvani it changed to a rooster, as in the case of this dinnerware service.

Galvani, unlike other important ceramic factories such as Richard Ginori, Fontebasso, Laveno Ceramic Society, was born modern at the beginning of the nineteenth century and, not having in its history a seventeenth- or eighteenth-century tradition, differentiated itself by addressing a more popular market with earthenware products.

The golden period of Galvani is between the two World Wars, exhibiting many artistic works in Milan and at the Venice Biennale, mainly focusing on airbrushed decors, typical of Art Deco.

The slow decline occurred in the 1950s and 1960s, when, due to a lack of artistic and technological renewal, it struggled to assert itself in an increasingly demanding market.

Galvani became the property in 1973 of Ugo Orlandi who ceded it in 1979 to Tognana Ceramiche. In 1983 Galvani was closed.

Rare item, very elegant.

Seller's Story

My name is Riccardo. I recently graduated in Art History from the University of Florence and I am passionate about porcelain. From tableware to artistic vases, from figurines to tea and coffee sets, I am fascinated by the mastery and creativity of great artisans and designers who manage to shape this fragile material, transforming a rough mass into masterpieces with a story to tell. During my years at university I began to become interested in the history of nineteenth- and twentieth-century tableware; today, every day, I deal with prestigious porcelain pieces that always have something to say to me and to those who purchase them. I love that every day I can discover more about the objects I find while traveling around Italy, always learning something new. I always try to convey to my clients this passion I have for the objects I sell, certain that each of them has a story to tell: that of the creator, that of the one who preserved it, and that of the person who will give it a new life.
