Four circular bronze plaques with high relief, overall 39 × 39 × 1 cm, made in Italy in the early 20th century in Liberty / Art Deco style, attributed to Alla maniera di Haig Patigian (1876–1950), unsigned and in good condition with the original brown patina.
Description from the seller
Fascinating series consisting of four circular plaques cast in bronze, characterized by refined high and low relief modeling.
The works explore the iconography of the sea through a fusion of natural reality and classical myth, typical of the Symbolist taste of the early 20th century.
The iconographic cycle includes:
The Sea Unicorn: A dynamic representation of the untamed force of the waters.
The Nymph of the Waves: A female figure who emerges gracefully from the sea foam (Nereid).
The Ship's Bow: A frontal view of an ancient vessel, symbol of travel and exploration.
The Shell and the Abyss: A sculptural study of the organic forms and the motion of the waves.
Technical Details
Material: Bronze with an original brown patina and natural greenish nuances.
Period: Early 20th century (circa 1910-1930).
Style: Liberty / Art Deco.
Technique: Lost-wax or sand-casting with chasing finish.
Condition: Excellent original condition. They display a magnificent patina of time that enhances their tridimensionality. No structural defects or restorations detected.
