Description from the seller
Italian piece, circa 1930s
Return to Verona
Four-drawer chest with mirror; typical "bedroom furniture" piece from the interwar period. Solid walnut and walnut veneer over a poorer wooden core. Rectangular central mirror; geometric inlay decoration (stylized diamond and striped fillets) on the upper crosspiece — a motif typical of the Deco/eclectic taste of the 1920s–30s.
Chest body: four drawers with pulls and metal hinge-style handles (probably brushed brass/pewter), top in polished walnut, legs slightly splayed.
Condition: fair; a used piece, not restored. Cracks and splits on the sides and back, small veneer liftings on the edges, wear marks on the top and on the false doors, a visible gap between the upper drawers.
Overall solid and functional, but in need of conservative restoration work (filling/stabilizing veneer, possible polishing) to be fully valued.
Carpenter's work (likely local/provincial), not a signed industrial-made piece — the workmanship is honest and well done but without complex carving or precious additional woods (streaking/locating, polychrome marquetry), so it sits in the range of craft-produced furniture of the era, not among high-end antiques.
Dimensions: Width 126; Depth 54; Overall height 193; Height to the top: 109;
Mirror: 42 x 58.
