Description from the seller
Massive silver ciborium with its cover cross - Goldsmith Émile Doublet (ED) - Neoclassical Clean Style - France / Imported - Circa 1900
Prestigious covered ciborium in solid silver, a masterpiece of sacred goldsmithing dating from the turn of the century (circa 1900). This liturgical object adopts a neoclassical style of great sobriety, favoring pure lines over decorative excess.
The Master Goldsmith’s Mark (Maître-orfèvre): Stamped very distinctly in a horizontal diamond on the rim of the cup and on the cross. The initials E and D are clearly read, separated by a central symbol (a key or vertical tool). This is the mark of the Parisian goldsmith Émile Doublet, specialized in high-end ecclesiastical art, active in Paris at the end of the 19th century and the very early 20th century.
The Official Control Mark: An oval mark representing a Swan in profile appears on the cross and the cup. In France, the Swan hallmark is the “hazard” or “customs guarantee” mark. It certifies that the object is made of solid silver (minimum fineness guaranteed at 800/1000), often used to seal second-hand objects passed through French guarantee offices or from European imports.
The photos are an integral part of the description of the objects and complement their presentation. Please examine them carefully before any commitment.
The item will be carefully packaged and shipped with a tracking number to ensure fast and secure delivery.
