Antique repoussé brass decorative wall plate dating to 1850–1900, in Baroque style, made in France, with a 41 cm diameter, 2.5 cm depth, and a back wall-mount ring, in good condition with age-related wear.
Description from the seller
Decorative repoussé brass platter
This decorative brass repoussé plate was produced in the 19th century, more precisely during the Historicism period (between 1865 and 1890), under the Second Empire (Napoleon III) or at the very beginning of the Third Republic
Manufacturing method: Repoussé / stamped metal
This plate is not a solid cast piece poured into a mold, but was made in repoussé brass or mechanically stamped. A thin sheet of brass was pressed or hammered against a die (an engraved steel or bronze relief mold) to give this shape
This type of decorative plate was not made by a single great sculptor, but by dinanderie workshops and industrial art foundries of the second half of the 19th century (primarily under the Napoleon III period and the Third Republic in France).
It is a semi-industrial production work, very common at the time, characterized by several elements
Motif: Julius Caesar
Origin: France
Era: 19th century
Materials: Brass
Dimensions: diameter 41 cm, depth 2.5 cm, weight 300 g
With a small ring on its back to mount it on a wall
Condition: see photos
