Description from the seller
Set of 7 Traditional Botswana Baskets.
This unique set of seven traditional Botswana baskets consists of one-of-a-kind handcrafted pieces, made by women from local communities who have passed down this weaving tradition from generation to generation.
Each basket is not only functional but also represents a deeply rooted cultural expression of local identity and heritage.
Each basket is woven from carefully selected palm leaves, which are treated and naturally dyed to create their distinctive geometric patterns in earthy tones and black. Their circular shape and compact structure reflect a high level of precision and craftsmanship, resulting in a finish that is both firm and flexible.
The process begins with the harvesting of palm leaves, which are dried in the sun and then cut into fine strips. The fibers are dyed using natural pigments obtained from roots, bark, and minerals.
The artisans then use a traditional coiling technique, carefully stitching the fibers in a spiral from the center outward to create symbolic patterns that often represent elements of nature or stories from the local community.
Each piece can take several days, or even weeks, to complete, depending on its size and complexity.
These baskets can be displayed as unique wall décor, used as a centerpiece, or incorporated into interiors with natural, ethnic, rustic, or contemporary styles.
The baskets are available in a variety of sizes:
30 cm diameter
25,5 cm diameter
2 units - 24 cm diameter
25 cm diameter
22,5 cm diameter
23 cm diameter
Each basket is approximately 5–7 cm high.
Condition: Impeccable.
