Description from the seller
Japanese photographer George Hashiguchi’s Jiyu (Freedom) is a photographic study of youth, freedom and life on the margins in Berlin.
After travelling through London, Liverpool, Nuremberg, West Berlin and New York in the early 1980s, Hashiguchi returned to Berlin in search of the meaning of “freedom.” The photographs focus on young people living in the city, including figures from punk and alternative subcultures, portraying both the attraction of personal freedom and the hardship and instability that can accompany it.
Through these portraits, Hashiguchi examines individuality, social belonging and the contrast between European youth culture and contemporary Japanese society. The book is closely related in format and concept to his photographic work Shissō and forms part of his long-term engagement with Berlin and its changing social landscape.
CONDITION
The slipcase has some scratches. The book itself is in very good condition with no notable issues.
