Description from the seller
FATME Rome / Ericsson Patents – Rare Vintage Black Bakelite Wall Telephone (1940s/1950s)
Lot Description:
Fascinating and rare vintage wall telephone in black bakelite, manufactured in Italy during the 1940s/1950s by the renowned F.A.T.M.E. (Fabbrica Apparecchi Telefonici e Materiale Elettrico) in Rome under Ericsson patents.
This item stands out for its exceptional aesthetic and structural state of preservation: the bakelite body and handset are glossy, complete, and free of cracks, chips, or restorations. The metal rotary dial operates smoothly, and it features the period-correct original black braided cloth cord.
Key Features & Highlights:
Makers Mark: Clear, crisp relief stamp on the rear reading "F.A.T.M.E. ROMA - BREVETTI ERICSSON".
Complete Vintage Interior: Clean, untampered internal circuitry featuring the original twin metal bells and internal body marking "MEI C5".
Rare Internal Document: Inside the cover, the original FATME vintage printed paper wiring diagram (Drawing No. 9836) is fully preserved.
Condition & Functionality:
Preserved in excellent collector's condition. Untested on modern phone lines; however, all internal mechanisms and components are complete and well-preserved. With a minor adaptation/conversion (using a standard pulse-to-tone converter for modern digital/VoIP lines), it can presumably be made fully functional, besides serving as a stunning vintage display or design piece.
