Wine and winery history

The Amarone della Valpolicella Classico by Giuseppe Quintarelli is one of the most representative wines of Valpolicella and is produced exclusively in the best vintages. Quintarelli’s winery is famous for a strongly traditional approach, characterized by manual grape selection, natural appassimento and extremely long maturation times.

The 2012 vintage has an alcohol level of about 16.5% by vol. and a blend based on the main Valpolicella varieties, with Corvina/Corvinone and Rondinella accompanied by other traditional and international varieties used by the winery. (enotecaria.it)

After the appassimento, the winemaking follows Quintarelli’s extremely long timings: slow fermentation with native yeasts and subsequent maturation for about 7 years in large Slavonian oak casks. This long aging contributes to the extraordinary complexity, depth and longevity of the wine. (Cibi Lucani shop)

The 2012 vintage has received important international recognitions: in addition to the 95/100 Parker, Falstaff awarded 97/100 in a 2020 tasting. (Falstaff)

Drinking or aging

Drink now or age.

2012 is already at a stage of great evolutionary interest thanks to the long aging done in the cellar, but the structure, acidity and concentration typical of Quintarelli’s Amarone give it notable potential for further evolution in bottle. It is therefore suitable for both tasting and long-term storage under optimal conditions. (lacantinadelsommelier.it)
