La Ca’ Növa Barbaresco Cuvée Montefico Vigna Bric Mentina 2022 is a red wine from an exceptional terroir nestled in the heart of Piedmont, more precisely on the famous Montefico cru, renowned among enthusiasts for its elegance and depth. This Barbaresco, vintage 2022, follows the pure tradition of Piedmont red wines, with a bold style, a bright garnet robe, and aromas often characterized by notes of ripe red fruit, cherry, and violet complemented by hints of spice, licorice, and sometimes tobacco depending on the year. Vinified in respect of the local style, this carefully aged wine benefits from the estate’s know-how, typically favoring delicate extraction and moderate aging, thus highlighting the finesse and structure of the region’s typical grape variety, often Nebbiolo.
The Barbaresco region is located in Piedmont, a mythical terroir with a strong wine identity. Here, the continental climate, often marked by morning fog, favors slow and steady ripening of the grapes. The soils, mainly calcareous marls, give the wines depth and aromatic complexity. Barbaresco shares with its neighbor Barolo a prestigious wine culture, cultivating an art of producing age-worthy, elegant, and structured wines sought after for their ability to evolve positively with the years.
This wine, both intense and distinguished, pairs perfectly with regional gastronomy such as herb-roasted lamb, porcini risotto, a tajarin with white truffle, or fine charcuterie. It is also superb with roasted poultry or braised dishes in sauce, as well as with certain aged cheeses like Castelmagno or Taleggio. Favor a cuisine with subtle flavors that will highlight its complex aromas without overpowering them.
For optimal tasting, I recommend serving this Barbaresco between 16 and 18°C (61–64°F). A short decanting, one to two hours before serving, will help open its aromas and reveal its full palette. This wine has promising aging potential, but if tasted now, it will already express a definite charm and a beautiful typicity.
