Description from the seller
Silver open-work cross with Christ in gold – STREICHER – Central Europe 19th century (+/- 1850)
Of Latin form, it has four polylobed ends adorned with a fine engraved checkerboard pattern.
The front is centered by a raised gold Christ, added, topped by the titulus INRI also gold.
Delicate rays engraved surround the head of Christ.
The reverse is particularly refined, with an elegant engraved decoration of stylized scrolls.
It bears the mark “STREICHER,” stamped in full letters in a rectangular cartouche.
Despite our research, this mark could not be definitively linked to a specific goldsmith; it could correspond to a maker of religious objects from the Germanic area.
The cross features an interesting hollow construction and is fully opening.
The removable back is held by a long through screw whose annular head forms the lower end of the cross.
This device allows access to the interior space, probably designed to receive a relic or devotional element.
The presence of a wide suspension ring at the top indicates it was intended to be worn or hung.
Beautiful condition; light scratches, wear and patina consistent with age.
The photos are an integral part of the description of the objects and complement the presentation. They allow assessing its condition and features. Please examine them carefully before any bidding.
The item will be carefully packed and shipped with tracking number, to ensure fast and secure delivery.
Happy bidding
