AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Superb Fresco with Scene of the Nile God on a Chariot Drawn by Two Crocodiles. Roman Empire, second half of the 1st century AD.
Flavian Period (ca. 60–79 AD). Fresco painting on mortar.
Dimensions: 81 × 52 × 4 cm.

An important fragment of Roman mural painting depicting the Nile god (Nilus) enthroned on a two-wheeled chariot drawn by a pair of crocodiles, accompanied by various figures in his retinue. Behind the deity is a figure holding a crown or diadem on his head in a coronation pose, an iconographic device that emphasizes the dignity and sacred nature of the personification of the great Egyptian river. The scene unfolds in a Nilotic landscape populated with aquatic vegetation, river fauna, and secondary figures, evoking the fertility, abundance, and exoticism associated with the Nile—themes of extraordinary popularity in Roman domestic decoration after the incorporation of Egypt into the Empire.

Acquired from a German private collection, collected from 1963.
-The piece includes an authenticity certificate as well as Spanish export license License document (Passport for European Union).

IMPORTANT: Due to the new laws on the export of archaeological pieces, we have decided to NO LONGER sell outside the European territory for the following countries: SWITZERLAND & UNITED STATES of AMERICA.

For other destinations out of European territory: all our items will be shipped after obtaining a definitive LICENSE EXPORTATION by the Ministry of Culture of Spain. We inform our clients that it may take between

These export fees are fixed on the final auction price, and the tax rate is not applied directly to the total value of the item to be exported, but rather the different percentages by sections are applied to it:

Please note that for far destination (Asia, middle east etc.. ), there will be an additional cost for the shipping.
