Amazing Bifacial Foliate Point, an Upper Paleolithic flint artefact from Le Grand-Pressigny, France, dating to circa 40,000–12,000 years ago, measuring about 10 cm by 4 cm in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Typology: Bifacial Foliate Point
Material: Flint
Description: Large and finely worked prehistoric foliate point made from flint, originating from the Grand-Pressigny region of France. The artefact displays an elegant elongated leaf-shaped form and is entirely worked on both faces, with extensive bifacial flaking covering the surfaces.
Numerous large, overlapping flake scars are clearly visible on both faces, while the lateral edges have been carefully shaped to create a regular elongated profile converging toward a pointed extremity. The relatively thin cross-section, extensive bifacial reduction and carefully controlled removals demonstrate a high level of prehistoric flint-knapping skill.
The piece is made from attractive warm honey-brown to caramel-brown flint, with lighter natural mineral inclusions and subtle variations in color. Its substantial size of 10 cm and well-defined foliate morphology make it a particularly attractive example of prehistoric bifacial workmanship from the famous flint-producing region of Le Grand-Pressigny.
Dating / Period: Upper Paleolithic, approximately 40,000–12,000 years BP.
Hominid: Homo sapiens sapiens
Origin: Le Grand-Pressigny region, Indre-et-Loire, France
Dimensions: Approximately 10 cm × 4 cm.
Condition: Very good condition. The artefact is well preserved, with extensive and clearly visible bifacial flake scars covering both faces. The elongated foliate form and pointed extremity remain well defined. The flint displays an attractive warm honey-brown coloration with lighter natural mineral inclusions. The quality of the bifacial workmanship and the excellent visibility of the flake scars make this a particularly representative example of prehistoric flint craftsmanship from the Grand-Pressigny region.
