AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

From the large collector’s legacy of my deceased father, .... here is an absolute highlight!! * One of the first illuminated globes from Columbus made of mouth-blown glass!!!

Description / Description
DEUTSCH
Historically highly interesting Columbus terrestrial globe – early first edition with mouth-blown glass globe and colonial map (ca. 1926–1930)
For sale is an absolute rarity for collectors of historic globes and scientific instruments: An early “Wirtschaftspolitische Ausgabe” (Economic-Political Edition) of the famous Columbus-Verlag (Paul Oestergaard, Berlin-Lichterfelde).
After the Columbus-Verlag invented the world’s first mass-produced illuminated globe in 1926, this exemplar belongs to the most sought-after early editions ever. In contrast to later models, the globe here is still made of real, mouth-blown crystal glass, onto which the paper gores were affixed by hand with masterful craftsmanship.
Special historical features:
The detailed map (edited by W. Bockisch, political cartography by R. Neuse and C. Luther) shows the global trade and shipping routes of the interwar period. As a time-historical document of the colonial revisionism of the Weimar Republic, the former protectorates are explicitly indicated – the region in East Africa is still labeled as “Deutsch-Ostafrika.”
Condition:
• Glass globe: Absolutely intact, no cracks or chips in the glass.
• Map: Beautiful, authentic patina of age. The colors are vivid, the paper shows only minimal, age-related traces (see photos).
• Function: The original lighting works flawlessly and produces a fascinating, warm light.
• Base: The original turned wooden base is in very nice condition.
A museum-quality collectible piece that, in this undamaged condition with a functioning glass globe, is now extremely rare on the market. The current collector and auction value for this extremely rare edition on respective auction platforms or in specialized antique shops, according to research, lies between €600 and €1,100.

Highly Important Historical Columbus Globe – Early First Edition with Hand-Blown Glass Sphere & Colonial Mapping (c. 1926–1930)
Up for auction is an absolute rarity for collectors of historic globes and scientific instruments: An early "Wirtschaftspolitische Ausgabe" (Economic-Political Edition) by the famous Columbus-Verlag (Paul Oestergaard, Berlin-Lichterfelde).
Following Columbus-Verlag's invention of the world's first mass-produced illuminated globe in 1926, this particular model stands as one of the most sought-after early editions. Unlike later cardboard versions, this sphere is crafted from genuine, hand-blown crystal glass, with the paper gores masterfully applied by hand.
Special Historical Features:
The highly detailed map (edited by W. Bockisch, political cartography by R. Neuse and C. Luther) illustrates the global trade and shipping routes of the interwar period. Reflecting the colonial revisionism of the Weimar Republic, the pre-WWI German protectorates are explicitly marked – the East African region is still uniquely labeled as "Deutsch-Ostafrika".According to our research, the current collector’s and auction value for this extremely rare version ranges from €600 to €1,100 on relevant auction platforms or in specialist antique shops.
Condition:
• Glass Sphere: Completely intact, no cracks, chips, or damage to the glass.
• Map: Beautiful, authentic vintage patina. The colors remain vibrant with only minimal, age-appropriate wear (please see photos).
• Functionality: The original internal illumination works perfectly, casting a stunning, warm glow.
• Base: The original, turned wooden base is in very good condition.
A museum-quality collector's piece. Finding an undamaged, hand-blown glass globe from this era in fully working condition is exceptionally rare.
