Antique British Victorian sporting powder flask dating from circa 1850–1870, made of embossed copper with brass fittings, about 22 cm long, 7 cm wide and 3 cm thick, weighing roughly 134 g, decorated with game birds and a reclining hunting hound, with original brass neck, long charging spout and spring‑operated cut‑off lever, sold empty in good antique condition with age patina.
Description from the seller
Antique British Victorian sporting powder flask, dating from the mid-19th century, circa 1850–1870.
A fine pear-shaped powder flask made from embossed copper with brass fittings. The body is decorated with traditional English sporting scenes: a pair of game birds in the upper medallion and a reclining hunting hound with fallen game in the lower medallion, surrounded by ornamental Victorian decoration.
The flask retains its brass neck assembly with long charging spout and spring-operated cut-off lever, as well as the two original suspension rings positioned at the sides of the neck.
This type of powder flask was used by British sportsmen with muzzle-loading percussion shotguns and fowling pieces during the Victorian period. Comparable examples with the same gamebird-and-hound decoration are described as British mid-19th-century sporting powder flasks.
No visible maker’s mark has been found, therefore the manufacturer is listed as unknown.
The flask displays an attractive aged copper patina, with surface wear, oxidation and traces of use consistent with its age. The embossed decoration remains clearly defined. Please study the photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.
The charging mechanism is present but has not been tested with gunpowder. Sold empty as an antique collector’s item.
