Jean Giono - Bernard Buffet [with dedication] - 1956

Here we have a unique and very rare find a hand signed copy of the 1956 book - Bernard Buffet by Jean Giono.

The French artist Bernard Buffet has written a dedication inside the front cover then signed his name. The imprint of this action has left its mark on a few more pages. The book contains images of artwork done by Buffet over a five year period (1950-1955).

Buffet is one of the most famous and prolific French artists of the 20th century, a leading Expressionist, admired and collected worldwide. His signature style, tall, angular, looping script matches known examples perfectly in this dedication

“For Jan Van Pree - With friendship - Bernard Buffet"

The dolphin-and-anchor logo is the historic Aldine Press mark

This is a hand signed presentation copy - inscribed directly by Buffet to a named individual, making it far more desirable than a just-signed copy. Presentation copies to named people are scarcer and more valuable than general signed copies; provenance is clear on the page.

Condition: clean, bright page; signature bold and legible so excellent quality

Authentication note: The signature aligns with all known authentic examples.

The size of the book is 180mm tall x 115mm wide
